Just to let you know- this blog is no longer active. I'll be keeping up my 101 in 1001 list until its completion, but will not be writing new posts. You can read the post below if you want the long version. Thanks for the journey to all my friends in the blogosphere!

If nothing else...

Running helps clear my mind. Even if it's only one mile...in the dark...on my block. Maybe I can be a little unreasonable/stubborn. Maybe.

Y'all gonna to have my cable back up in time for the Biggest Loser?

I've been having major internet/computer problems both at home and at school the past few days and it's driving me crazy. I was dealing though until I turned on the cable to make sure the Biggest Loser was going to record last night...and the cable was out too. That's my one show. I was very discouraged.

On my run, I happened to see the Time Warner trucks out and working on a line. I couldn't believe that I'd run right into the problem! I just couldn't resist running over and asking, "Y'all gonna have my cable back up in time for Biggest Loser?"

To his credit though, instead of laughing in my face or calling me a giant dork, the technician replied, "Hey, I'm missing it, too!" At least it wasn't just me.

I just think Google is great.

If you have not experienced Google outside of just "googling," you are really missing out. I'm keep on discovering and falling in love with new Google programs. There is no ever going back from Gmail email. I love using Google Earth when I'm showing my students somewhere new (or just around here because there is STILL some confusion for a few kids about what country/state/county/town we live in). And, really, what could be cooler (and possibly creeper) than Street View.

The relevant Google application for today, though, is
Gmap-Pedometer. If you do any kind of running/biking/walking/moving along streets, you will love this. You zoom into your town or area and then plot out your route and it will show you your mileage. Pretty amazing, right?! Well, I thought so.

P.S. This is not a paid infomercial for Google, I just like to gush.

It's a pretty pathetic start.

It was a beautiful hot day. So hot, in fact, that I decided to wait until this evening to run. It would be really rude to run off though when you have visitors (who you really enjoy visiting with because we don't get many visitors anyway) to come by and sit on the porch on such a beautiful evening. We had such a lovely time with our guests that it became dark before I ever located my running shoes.

So, as early as Day Two, I met the treadmill. I just really, truly, honestly hate running on the treadmill. (This fact should motivate me to actually get my lazy self out and run before 8 in the evening.) I really shouldn't complain though; last year, in Siler City, I had no treadmill and very often did not get home from school until dark. Which means I spent many a workout literally running around (sometimes the exterior, sometimes the interior) of my duplex...which, I'm pretty sure, makes me a huge dork.

Anyway, I realize two days of only one mile is pretty pathetic. I'm looking forward to a real (non-treadmill!) run tomorrow!

Day One

So, lately, I've been keeping up with my (now long-distance) friends via their respective blogs and somehow, through a series of links, starting following additional blogs of people that I have never met. All of the sudden, I had so much reading to get to every day! To keep all this organized, I made my own little blog page, but it was blank. And it seemed a little creepy to have a blank blog and just stalk around reading everybody else's writing. It was my husband that suggested that I have a "theme" for my blog. (Actually, he suggested I NOT have a blog. But if I HAD to, to have a theme.)

Well, this made me think of something else my husband suggests I not do. Two years ago, I attempted to run every day for a year. I made it 9 months...and then forgot one day and it was ruined and I just stopped. Today, on my 24th birthday, I'm starting over! It seemed like a good idea to merge the two ideas. So, here I am.
